A message from RISE, organisers of The International Publication Planning Meeting (TIPPA):
Global stakeholders in biopharma, medical device/diagnostics, agencies, and publishers will convene at RISE’s 19th Annual International Publication Planning Meeting on Feb 25–26 in San Diego.
Participants will have two days to share best practices and off-the-record ideas, network, and discuss the latest trends in the industry.
“I’m really excited about this year’s programme. We have evolved in this conference over the last four years to be the place where thought leaders in the publication planning space come together in an open environment to benchmark best practice,” said RISE Conference Director Jessica Pacheco.
The International Publication Planning Meeting (TIPPA) will be held Feb 25–26 at the beautiful Paradise Point Resort & Spa in San Diego, USA. Here are some highlighted features of this year’s conference:
Optional session for newcomers
New this year is the Early Riser Session to kick-off day one. The Publication Planning 101 is perfect for newcomers who focus on publication management and compliance. The bootcamp will be led by Val Injev, Global Medical Publications Lead, Alcon Vision LLC. Injev will share best practices for executing trouble-free publication projects, discuss GPP & ICMJE publication guidelines and how they relate to a compliant publication, explore publication timelines and project management’s organisational essentials, and create a roadmap for publication strategy.
There will be three panel discussions throughout the second day:
The first panel will explore advocacy in publishing: patients as authors and the use of patient lay summaries. Panellists will examine the evolution and involvement of the patient perspective in the publication process, discuss the emergence of patient advisory boards and incorporating direct patient feedback in manuscript development, and explore the possibility for patient involvement in medical publications as co-authors and journal reviewers.
Next, editors will gather in the publisher panel: trends in scientific dissemination and article acceptance. They will discuss what journals look for and how to manage expectations, the impact of digital enhancements, publishing trends for 2020 and beyond, and answer Q&A from the publisher’s perspective.
Lastly, a panel will answer the question ‘Has the pendulum swung on authorship?’ They’ll explore who should be considered an author, the ethics and integrity of authorship, and the authorship roles and work streams across companies.
A case study identifying predatory journals and conferences will be led by Shweta Rane, director, Global Scientific Communications, Alexion Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Rane will share tips to avoid the traps of a predatory journal and how to look past the editorial board and examine the publisher’s history and impact factors
Mike Smith, Managing Director, AlphaBioCom, will lead a case study focused on current methods and best practices to ensure error free publications. Smith will discuss why incidence of errors is a significant issue for medical publication professionals and the techniques that can help reduce them and improve overall quality of medical publications.
Participants will have over six hours of scheduled networking with more than 80 professionals in the publication planning space throughout the two-day event. Tuesday evening there will be a networking cocktail reception including 20-minute moderated champagne roundtables, allowing attendees to experience different topics.
Wednesday morning will feature two breakfast breakouts: small and mid-sized organisations and women in publication planning. Participants will meet new peers in their industry and discuss solutions to challenges within the publication planning space.
Additional networking sessions will take place over lunch and between breakout sessions.
