“Current pitfalls and opportunities in medical communications”
A recent MedComms Networking event (25 April 2018, Knutsford, UK) saw medical communications professionals discuss some of the key “pitfalls and opportunities” facing the industry today.
First up, John Gonzalez (Solanum Medical Communications), presented his talk entitled ‘Pitfalls in Medcomms: from fake degrees, journals and conferences to falsified data and retractions’. Dr Gonzalez gave a comprehensive overview of the issues relating to ‘fake news’ in medical communications, including predatory publishers and conferences and, importantly, how to spot them!
Next, Nirpal Virdee (Synchrogenix), looked at another hot topic in our field: ‘The impact Artificial Intelligence (AI) has had in regulatory writing and future opportunities within medical publishing’. Virdee used case study examples to show how artificial intelligence is being used in regulatory writing and its potential in developing materials such as lay summaries.
