Data notes: a new initiative to improve data visibility

Data notes

BMC Research Notes has launched a new article type in the form of data notes, as introduced by the journal’s editor, Dirk Krüger, in a recent blog. Data notes are data descriptors that are less than 1000 words in length, contain no interpretation or analysis, and can be from any scientific discipline. Each note is assigned a digital object identifier (DOI), making the short articles fully citable.

Each data note is made up of just three sections (Objective, Data description, and Limitations) plus a single summary data table, and authors are required to deposit their data in a recommended repository together with the full and detailed methodology. The aim of this approach is to increase data visibility and help researchers make their data more findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable.
